GRETABILITY

finding ability in disability

I am not going to lie about the fact that my life is and always will be full of challenges. In my day to day life, I always have to overcome something whether it be going to a store and finding out that it isn’t accessible, or the times when I suddenly can’t breathe because a secretion is blocking my airway. I could give you many other examples, but the main purpose of my blog is to inspire people who may be like me, and who may not, and show the world that my life is packed full of amazing experiences that I am beyond grateful for, even along with the bad. I am always looking for ways that I can do things differently, and am always looking for ways to overcome these challenges that I often face. I never and never will let my disability stop me from doing things that I am passionate for, like dancing, and even writing on this blog right here. I always and always will find the ability in disability.

Have you ever broken a leg? Or even an arm? Those few weeks that you spend in a cast are the 13 years that I have spent in my wheelchair. Think back to when you broke that arm, or that leg. You probably remember yourself longing to heal as you were miserable stuck in your cast, but I feel the exact opposite. I am proud to be different, or as some may say, “weird.” My disability is what makes me unique. I am like a fish out of water, but I wouldn’t change it for the absolute world. I use my difference to make a difference.

“I Lived”

One song that really resonates with me is, “I Lived” by OneRepublic. I have many challenges in my life like the fact that I need a ventilator to breathe, and a wheelchair to get around. Many people may see this as a barrier, which in some ways, it can be, but in so many ways…
